Community Empowerment Through Radio

Radio has proven to be a very important tool for Urban and Rural Conscientization.  It has the power to reach over a 1000 or more people in one broadcast and with its dexterity of informing and  entertaining at the same time, makes it unique.

I want to say Thanks toActionAid, Campaign For Good Governance (CGG) and Centre for the Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA) for this skill on Radio Listening Group. I can conviniently pass on this skill to more communities and above all my fellow Women....Mariama says.

Community Radio Listening (CRL) groups come together to listen to messages designed to mobilize them for action on various topics ranging from Health, Human rights to that of Community rights and above all participation. These groups can in turn be agents of change in their various communities due to the messages they  listen to. They can further engage other  communities into having more consolidated Radio Listening Groups.

As the #EU/CSO LA project aims at mobilizing various communities and empower them to hold governemnt accountable on issues of Women's and Civil society Partcipation, Gender Responsive Services and the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), training and formation of 80 Community Radio Listening groups in all 4 project implementing districts of that is Bombali, Kono,Bo and Western Area.

The training saw the building of capacity of various Community Animators with radio listening skills, who are expected to also form listening groups in their respective communities, with a focus of using the Radio Jingles and drama on several messages from Rights to that of Partcipation.

It is expected that these animators monitors the listening groups and ensure actions are taken based on the messages fromthe jingles and radio drama.

Mariama Feika, is one of the animators that benefited from the training, she has this to say "I want to say Thanks toActionAid, Campaign For Good Governance (CGG) and Centre for the Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA) for this skill, i can conviniently pass this skill to more communities and above all my fellow Women".

The #EU CSO/LA Project is a 3 year Project Implemented by ActionAid, CGG and CCYA.
